10/27 our game
This week in class, my group and I started the creating or a game called "Classroom from Hell". It is based off of the game Battle Battle. In our game however, its a little bit different. Our game has three characters or 'students' who are trying to keep their classroom disruptive, so that the teacher can't control the classroom. There are certain tasks the teacher hands the players that are selected based on difficulty from a dice roll. The students have only a few rounds or sometimes 1 to complete the task. If they don't, they lose points to their grade. If they do, they go to the next tasks until they finish the two phases and the teacher quits their job. Zach Hiwiller says the saltiest game disallow skill to come into play. Our game is similar. You are the tasks you do and cards you draw are completely random. Zach also says that the degree of randomness correlates to the fairness of the game. The less random, the more fair and visa versa. Our game definitely has lots of randomness that occurs, but it doesn't necessarily affect the outcome of the game. Hiwiller also says drafting is a mechanic that allows players to select resources to gain a more even distribution. Our game allows players to draw cards to gain attributes that they can use against the tasks, or even move around their own resources to to better finish a task that requires different attributes than what the player might currently have.

So long as the randomness is weighted in favor of the player, it’s permissible. But most players find randomness that hinders them less enjoyable.
